Grocers, convenience stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets, butchers, greengrocers and wine merchants, fashion boutiques, DIY stores, florists, petrol stations and online retailers: for manufacturers and wholesalers recruiting stockists, payment and logistics providers and shopfitters.
Our database for France holds 1,577,933 records (as of 4 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.
Export of the whole industry: €359 (full price). Selections by region, department or your own filters are quoted on request.
Official statistics: 441,732 businesses in France according to Eurostat, structural business statistics (sbs_ovw_act) (reference year 2024, data as of 30 September 2026). Division 47 retail trade (468,554) excluding pharmacies (47.73: 22,352) and retail sale of medical and orthopaedic goods (47.74: 4,470). Mail order and internet retail (47.91: 79,949) is included, as are opticians, which the European statistics only publish within class 47.78. This is the size of the market, not the size of our database.
Start from the speciality (clothing, DIY, specialist food) or the format (mini-market, supermarket), both of which correspond to NAF subclasses, then the area. For online retail, make the website a required field.
Our records do not yet carry a NAF code: selecting by activity (NAF subclass) will only be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The quote states what can be done today: area and required fields.
The official figure shown counts businesses and includes opticians, which the European statistics do not separate; it is neither a number of shops nor the exact content of a selection.
Price of the whole industry: €359. A selection by region, sub-industry or required fields is quoted individually; the whole-industry price is not a price promise for the filtered selection.
A request is not an order. Scope, fields, the date of the data and price are confirmed before you order.
What counts as Retail and online retail
Retail trade is division 47 of NAF rév. 2. For general food retail, INSEE draws the line by sales area: under 120 m² for general food stores (47.11B), 120 to 400 m² for mini-markets (47.11C), 400 to 2,500 m² for supermarkets (47.11D) and 2,500 m² or more for hypermarkets (47.11F).
A bakery that bakes its own bread belongs to food manufacturing (10.71C); only the resale of bread not made on the premises falls under 47.24Z. Online sales of vehicles and car parts stay in division 45. Pharmacies, medical and orthopaedic goods and opticians (47.78A) have their own page: Pharmacies, opticians and hearing care.

Retail: general registers and targeted data
Retailers register in the national business register (RNE) like any other business. For retail, three official sources shed light on specific segments.
Petrol stations: “Prix des carburants”
The economy and finance ministries publish as open data the outlets listed on prix-carburants.gouv.fr: address, coordinates, opening hours, services, fuels and prices, updated every ten minutes. The operator’s name, SIRET and phone number are not included.
Large stores: commercial operating permit
Opening or extending a store of more than 1,000 m² of sales area, or a click-and-collect “drive”, requires a commercial operating permit, following an opinion or decision of the departmental commission for commercial planning (CDAC) (Direction générale des Entreprises). It is a case-by-case procedure, not a directory of stores.
Online shops: mandatory legal notice
A business website, whether of a company or a sole trader, must display among other things the head office address, an email address, a phone number and the RCS or RNE registration number (Service Public Entreprendre). Contact and legal notice pages are one of the sources of our contact details.

Franchise, branch or independent: what the shop sign does not tell you
In a franchise network, each shop belongs to a separate business with its own SIREN; a branch is just one establishment of the group. For a manufacturer approaching independent retailers, this difference matters more than the brand on the shopfront.
Generic addresses of online shops (contact@, customer service) belong to the legal entity; the CNIL states that the rules on email prospecting do not apply to them. Your message should remain a business offer, for example products to stock.
The region follows the shop’s address, derived from the postcode. An online retailer often has only a head office or warehouse address, which says nothing about its delivery area.

Questions
Retail and online retail: frequently asked questions
Not yet: our records do not carry a NAF code yet. NAF separates these formats by sales area (47.11C, 47.11D, 47.11F); the distinction will be possible for records matched with the Sirene database (matching in progress). The code reflects the activity declared to INSEE, not a measurement of the current floor space. The quote states how many records have a NAF code and how many do not yet.
Yes, where they appear in our sources: distance selling (47.91A and 47.91B) is part of the sector. Their address is the one our sources publish, often the head office or warehouse, and the site_web column gives the shop’s web address where known.
According to the CNIL, the rules changed on 11 August 2026: phoning consumers for marketing requires their prior consent, whereas businesses have the right to object. Our file contains the numbers published for the establishment; for a sole trader, this number may be a mobile (06, 07). Respect any objection; details in our guide to B2B prospecting.
